IPv4 & IPv6

IPv4

  1. IPv4 is the 4th version of internet protocol.
  2. IPv4 addresses are 32 bit length.
  3. IPv4 addresses are binary numbers represented in decimals.
  4. IPSec support is optional in IPv4.
  5. Fragmentation is done by sender and forwarding routes.
  6. No packet flow identification.

IPv6

  1. IPv6 is the 6th version of internet protocol.
  2. IPv6 addresses are 128 bit length.
  3. IPv6 addresses are binary number represented in hexadecimals.
  4. Inbuilt IPSec support is possible\
  5. Fragmentation is only done by sender.
  6. Packet flow identification is available with the IPv6 header using the flow label field.
